Discovery Myers and Daly, 1976, Bulletin of the American Museum of Natural History, New York, 157: 244.
Type locality "La Brea, 50 meters elevation, on the Río Patia (=upper tributary Río Saija), at an estimated 15 km by river below mouth of Quebrada Guanguí, Department of Cauca, Colombia".
Holotype The holotype: AMNH 88143 is to be found in the American Museum of Natural History in New York.
Etymology
Classification Placed by Myers in the Dendrobates histrionicus group.

Distribution Western slope of the western Andes in Cauca, Colombia, 50-200 m elevation.
Biotope
Care and breeding They can be kept at a temperature of 25-27°C.
