Discovery Myers & Daly & Martinez, 1984, American Museum Novitates, New York, 2783: 5.
Type locality Western Panama. Locality 8° 46´ N, between 82° 10´ - 82° 13´ W, 1050 m elevation near Quebrada de Arena, Province of Chiriquí, Panama.
Holotype The holotype AMNH 116724 is to be found in the American Museum of Natural History in New York, USA.
Etymology
Classification Member of the histrionicus group.
Synonymy English name: Polka-Dot Poison Frog
History
Physical description 22 - 24 mm, yellow spots on a black to brown base. The finger disks are clearly split.
Distribution Only known from the type locality in western Panama.
Biotope Usually found in bromeliads on trees about 10 meter
Care and breeding The vivarium should be especially high with many bromeliads at 22-26°C. D. arboreus has a long extensive mating ceremony. The eggs are placed on leaves of the bromeliads. Expected is that the larvae are fed with non-fertilised eggs laid by the female.
