Poison Frogs - Species

There is a lot written about the different species of poison frogs, people have made and are making complete studies of the taxonomy of these creatures. The table below provides a list of the frogs known and their classification in the various groups.

Frogs within one group will most likely interbreed and provide off-spring that is not pure anymore. One should be very carefull to let this happen in a vivarium of your own, since poison frogs are rare creatures, it is at best to keep the species as pure as possible to prevent them from extinction.

The list below and alsmost all species descriptions are based on the great work of over the years of Tonnie Woeltjens for Dendrobatidae Nederland, translated to english and summarized by Erik van der Horst ( another immense job ), who provided this massive info to me to place this on the web for you. Pictures, films and the personal info are mine. More Pictures are much desired and welcomed, remarks and adjustments to, please send them to me via mail.
